Your engines manufacture will specify a standard service every 300 hours or 3 years. This service ensures your engine is running at optimal temperature and that the driveshaft has enough lubrication.
What's the difference between a 100 and 300 hour service?
For a 300 hour service the lower unit needs to be removed to replace the water pump impeller and grease the driveshaft.
Can you replace the impeller with my boat in the water?
In order to replace the impeller the engine will have to be out of the water. This requires a tech to remove the lower unit, stand the unit up right, and replace the impeller without scuffing or damaging the lower unit or drive components.
How important is it to replace my water pump impeller?
Very important! The water pump impeller is crucial in cooling the entire engine while running. Failure to replace an impeller can result in engine over heat, leading to possible engine failure.
